How it works

Go from chaotic dice rolls to breathtaking artwork, effortlessly.

1

Run your session

Run the night exactly like you always would—just keep a recording or a text transcript going. The more raw table material you capture, the more vivid and detailed your final illustrations will be.

2

Drop in your file

Upload your audio recording or transcript. The system reads through your session, automatically identifies the most dramatic highlights, and illustrates your party members right into the action.

3

See your key scenes, illustrated

Standout moments arrive already painted—from massive spells to stealthy ambushes. View your party’s epic milestones right on the screen, with total freedom to change the look whenever you want.

Two ways to paint a scene

Whether you want the work done for you or hand-pick every moment, scene illustration is built in.

Hands-off

Automatic key scene illustrations

Whenever you upload a session, we analyze your adventure for maximum visual impact and automatically paint the standouts—your party in the moments that matter most. Your most memorable scenes arrive already illustrated. No prompting required.

Hands-on

Illustrate any line yourself

Hit a line worth its own picture? Highlight it in the story editor, click "Illustrate this," and a new scene drops inline at exactly that spot. It's refinable like every other illustration, with variants you can flip between — for writers and players who want creative control over which moments get painted.

Frequently asked questions

Is scene illustration really free?
Automatic chapter art is included on every plan, including the free tier — the standout scenes of every chapter are illustrated for you without any upgrade. Inline “Illustrate this” actions and unlimited scene refinement are part of the paid Hero tier; new users also get a Welcome Starter Kit of pro-tier actions to try the on-demand flow for free.
How does Chronicle & Canvas pick which scenes to illustrate automatically?
Every detected scene is scored for visual impact — how cinematic the moment is, whether it features the party, how much descriptive imagery the prose carries. The top-scoring scenes are sent be painted. The intent is that the moments you’d most want art for are the ones that get art, without you having to decide.
Do the same characters show up across scenes?
Yes. Once your party portraits exist, the illustrator carries them through every scene that mentions them—the dwarven cleric in chapter one looks like the same dwarven cleric in chapter five. Better yet, the artwork evolves under your direction; if you decide that cleric earned a permanent scar on the battlefield, you can update their description and the illustrator will carry it forward. That’s the core difference: a truly continuous memory that adapts to your choices, rather than starting from scratch with every single request.
What if I want to illustrate a moment you skipped?
Highlight the line in the story editor and click “Illustrate this.” Chronicle & Canvas paints a new scene illustration for that exact moment and drops it inline beneath the paragraph. You can edit the prompt and iterate to land on the take that feels right; every variant is kept so you can flip back.
What art style are the scenes in?
Rich illustrations with expressive brushwork, modeled after classic adventure manuals. Stylized and full of character, not photorealistic. Every portrait shares the same cohesive visual language, ensuring your party looks like a legendary team rather than six unrelated art commissions.
